Florida Fire Districts partner with the Florida Fire Marshals & Inspectors Association (FFMIA.com), and with private industry to produce a state-wide informational video aimed at educating commercial building owners regarding the Aldridge-Benge Firefighter Safety Act. The act became law on December 13, 2009, and requires the owners of commercial, industrial, and multi-unit residential buildings (three or more units) in Florida to be marked with an emblem to warn firefighters of the use of lightweight floor and roof trusses, which are prone to early collapse under fire conditions. The act was named in the memory of two Orange County (FL) firefighters who were killed in the collapse of a gift shop that was constructed of such components.

Click Ad for Info Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening to investigate an odor in the area of Hertel Ave & Elmwood Ave. The assignment was upgraded to a 1st alarm for a report of a warehouse fire & B-47 went on location with smoke showing from a 2 story concrete block complex. B-56 assumed command and reported difficulty accessing the building and requested the 2nd alarm to the scene. Ladder 7 reported fire through the roof in a rear step down about 10×10 in size. An interior attack was attempted but B-56 ordered crews to back out & a defensive attack was set up using Ladder 7, Ladder 2, & Ladder 6’s tower ladders. B-56 requested an additional Engine & Truck to stage at Elmwood & Hertel Ave. Crews are still on location almost 4 hours into the fire
